Known as one of the most recognized healthcare institutions in Brazil, the Oswaldo Cruz German Hospital was founded in 1897 by a group of German-speaking immigrants. It achieved the accreditation from the Joint Commission International (JCI) in the year 2009 and was re-certified by the same in 2012, thus sanctioning its position among the best in the world in terms of providing excellent health services. Spread over 96,000 square metres of area, it has 1,914 employees, 5,231 doctors, 19 operating theatres. It has 278 inpatient beds, 29 beds for semi-intensive care and 44 ICU beds.
